Player Dallas Mavericks could sign: 5. Darren Collison
Collison could be a difference-maker in Disney. He retired before the season but flirted with coming back to play for the Lakers or Clippers. It was announced in February that he would remain retired. Fans know things can change quickly in the NBA, though. He may decide to come back for the season’s conclusion in Orlando.
Collison was a starting point guard each of the last three seasons including in the playoffs for the Pacers two straight years. He is a proven ball-handler, shooter, and defender. Collison would make an instant impact on any contending team. Over the last four years combined, he shot 42.4 percent from 3-point range while averaging 12.7 points, 5.1 assists, and 1.2 steals per game.
The 32-year-old still has a lot left in the tank. If he wants to play, expect him to sign with any team he chooses ahead of training camp 2.0.
Collison and Mavericks star Luka Doncic have the same agent. He also played one season in Dallas. DC seems unlikely to sign with the Mavs, but they have a small chance. Most likely, Collison will stay retired. Keep an eye out for any news to the contrary.
