How LaMarcus Aldridge’s injury impacts Dallas Mavericks: Spurs playoff hopes dashed
The San Antonio Spurs were invited to Orlando for the restart, but their hopes of making the playoffs were slim. They went 27-36 before the suspension. That put them 12th in the Western Conference and four games behind the eighth-seeded Grizzlies.
Losing Aldridge all but sinks their playoff chances. To make even the play-in, the Spurs would have to jump three teams. Each is only a half-game ahead of them, but passing multiple organizations in eight games is difficult. San Antonio would then have to win two straight against the eighth-seed to face the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round of the playoffs.
Doing that without Aldridge seems almost impossible. The Spurs won four of the ten games he missed so far this season.
The Mavericks played San Antonio four times before the suspension, so the two teams will not face off in Orlando. Dallas will be helped by having one less team to worry about in the Western Conference, but they will not see a direct impact.
Aldridge being out could actually hurt the Mavericks when it comes to the regular season games in Orlando. Continue reading for more on that. The Spurs playoff streak is almost certain to end with LaMarcus Aldridge missing the remainder of the season.
