Dallas Mavericks: Grading J.J. Barea’s 2019-2020 season

Overall
J.J. Barea returned from a torn Achilles. He managed to play in 26 games and narrowly missed topping his career-high 3-point percentage. The 35-year-old proved he still has a lot left in the tank.
Dallas Mavericks fans will always remember how clutch he was in the 2011 playoff run. Barea’s performance in games five and six of the finals certainly helped the Mavs grab the championship. It also went a long way in making him a Mavericks legend.
Overall grade for the 2019-2020 season: C
Barea fits well into his new role. He helped swing the momentum in multiple games this season. His ability to stay ready was impressive. He would come off the bench at a moment’s notice and impact the game. Barea used his basketball IQ to keep getting the Mavericks easy buckets.
It will be interesting to see what happens after this season. Barea is set to become an unrestricted free agent. He recently told the Dallas Morning News that he would like to play a few more seasons.

The Mavericks should bring him back. Barea is the perfect 12th man. He does not need to be in the nightly rotation but can make a difference when called upon. It is something to monitor when free agency opens.
