Dallas Mavericks GOAT Dirk Nowitzki led his team to a championship in 2011. The NBA made a mini-movie about their final series against the Miami Heat.

Dallas Mavericks reached the pinnacle in 2011. Dirk Nowitzki led them to a championship with a veteran group. Each of their four top scorers was over 30 years old.

That takes nothing away from the team. Hall of Famer Jason Kidd was the starting point guard. They had veterans Jason Terry, Shawn Marion, and Tyson Chandler all hunger for their first ring.

It was a special season. The Mavericks were underdogs in virtually every round of the playoffs.

That had to upset the two-time defending champion Los Angeles Lakers in the Western Conference Semifinals. A team led by Kobe Bryant. The next round the Mavs had to vanquish the Oklahoma City Thunder featuring Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, and James Harden. Three future MVPs in the same lineup. The Mavericks won eight of nine against those two teams.

That was all before reaching the finals. There waited the “Big 3” Miami Heat. It was LeBron James’ first season in South Beach. He and Chris Bosh teamed up with Dwyane Wade the summer before. Everyone expected them to win the championship. The Mavericks had other ideas.

The NBA created a mini-movie about that series. Many Dallas fans watched all 16 Mavs wins from their 2011 playoff run on Fox Sports Southwest over the last few weeks. This a great companion piece to what they just saw.

Dirk finally won his first title. It was the only thing missing on his resume. He averaged 27.7 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 2.5 assists during the 2011 playoffs. Nowitzki shot 48.5 percent from the field and 94.1 percent on his free throws. Those are outstanding numbers, especially in the postseason.

Hopefully, you enjoyed the run again recently. With live sports suspended, it was a blast looking back at that fantastic time in Mavericks history. That team will certainly never be forgotten.
