5. Myles Turner, Indiana Pacers

The Dallas Mavericks have an important decision to make when building their roster. Do they want to play Kristaps Porzingis primarily at the four or five? Both have their pros and cons.

KP is the ideal stretch five. In coach Rick Carlisle’s system, the center is the primary roll man. That means teaming up with Luka Doncic and being involved heavily in the offense. Porzingis returned to his All-Star form after his shift to the five this season.

If the Mavericks add a center, they need a defensive anchor. A player that can lead the unit on that end of the floor. Carlisle loves threes, so one who can shoot would be ideal.

Enter Texas native Myles Turner. The 24-year-old would be returning home fresh off a season where he averaged 11.8 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks per game. Those numbers do not tell the entire story. He played next to Domantas Sabonis in Indiana which was not ideal on either end of the floor for Turner.

The 6’11 big man is a career 35.4 percent 3-point shooter. That could improve in the Mavericks’ offense because of their spacing.

The downside of adding Myles Turner is it eliminates the Mavericks flexibility. He just finished the first season of a four-year $80 million deal. Adding Turner means no cap space in 2021 to chase Giannis Antetokounmpo and the other available stars.
