Bleacher Report shares hypothetical deal

Andy Bailey put together a fantastic piece on Bleacher Report detailing potential trades the Utah Jazz could make if they decide to move either Rudy Gobert or Donovan Mitchell. Please, check out the entire article here.

Bailey put the Mavericks on his list of teams that could grab Gobert. In his scenario, it costs Dallas Dwight Powell, Tim Hardaway Jr., the Warriors 2020 second round pick, and their first rounder in 2025. His analysis of the deal is spot on as well. Mavs fans should check it out.

My take

The Dallas Mavericks should jump at that deal. Powell is recovering from a torn Achilles. That injury is no longer career-ending, but he is unlikely to be back to 100 percent until at least this time next year. Hardaway Jr. would have opted-in meaning he is headed for free agency in the summer of 2021.

It is the Mavs taking their shot at contending for a title next season. Fans have seen Mark Cuban and Donnie Nelson be aggressive when they have a star. The pair did it for the majority of Dirk Nowitzki’s career. Now, they are taking their first chance with Luka. If it backfires, Dallas can start fresh in the summer of 2021 looking for that third piece to pair with Doncic and Porzingis.
