5. Montrezl Harrell- 2015 draft

First, we go back to 2015. The Dallas Mavericks were just eliminated by the Houston Rockets in the first round of the playoffs. James Harden dropped 28.4 points per game to knockout out Dirk and the Mavs.

Dallas had the 21st overall pick and were said to be targeting current Maverick Delon Wright. The point guard out of Utah was snapped up by the Raptors at 20. The Mavs decided to take Justin Anderson. The wing lasted a year and a half in Dallas before being traded to Philadelphia as part of the Nerlens Noel deal.

The Mavericks needed a big man. Tyson Chandler was weeks away from departing in free agency. Dallas used their second round pick on a center. Montrezl Harrell out of Louisville was still sitting on the board at 21. Imagine him running pick and rolls with J.J. Barea as he does with Lou Williams.

The Mavs also could have picked Bobby Portis, Larry Nance Jr., Kevon Looney, or Richaun Holmes.

Harrell averaged 15.7 points and 9.2 rebounds per game during his junior year at Louisville. He was drafted by the Rockets but blossomed after being traded to Clippers. Harrell is averaging 18.6 points and 7.1 rebounds per game this season, and Justin Anderson played a total of 17 minutes with the Nets.
