2015 draft

Mavericks select Justin Anderson at 21st overall

Mavs drafted Satnam Singh Bhamara with the 52nd overall pick

The Dallas Mavericks were fresh off being eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the Rockets. It was the second straight season they fell in the first round. Monta Ellis led the team in scoring with Dirk finishing second.

That meant the Mavs picked 21st overall. They had their eye on current Maverick Delon Wright, but the Raptors selected him at pick 20. They decided to take Justin Anderson. He bounced back and forth between the Texas Legends and Mavericks before being traded in the middle of his second season to Philadelphia in the Nerlens Noel deal.

More. How trading for Danilo Gallinari would have changed the Mavs

The Mavs chose Anderson over Montrezl Harrell, Larry Nance Jr., Richaun Holmes, Josh Richardson, and other talents playing important roles for teams this season. Anderson has played a total of 17 minutes and has never averaged more than 16.4 per game in his career.

In the second round, Dallas selected Satnam Singh who has never appeared in an NBA game.

Looking back, it was a bad draft for the Mavericks. They got very little value from their two selections. At least Anderson played and helped them make a deal for a young promising big man. That trade ended up going south for Dallas too, but it salvaged a bit of value from this draft.
