1. Nightmare matchup

The Dallas Mavericks would have been a team that no one looked forward to playing had they traded for Danilo Gallinari. They already have the best offensive rating in the NBA. Now, add in a player scoring 19 a night that is in the top 20 in 3-point percentage. The Mavericks would have been a nightmare matchup for every team.

The addition of Gallinari would provide Coach Rick Carlisle a bit more freedom to stagger his lineups too. The Mavs could have a premier scorer on the floor at all times. Gallinari would have been the third Maverick in the top 40 in points per game this season. Staggering those three gives Dallas an elite scoring option on the court at all times.

Gallinari provides versatility too. He can play at the three next to Porzingis and Maxi Kleber. The 31-year-old could also see action as the small ball five surrounded by Dorian Finney-Smith and three wing options. His presence allows the Mavericks to match up against any team.

Next. Will the Mavs trade their 2020 first round pick on draft night?

The price of acquiring Danilo Gallinari was just too high. He would have been an instant upgrade for the Dallas Mavericks, but they could not get the deal done. The Mavs are still headed to the playoffs and should only improve in the coming seasons. They could acquire Gallinari in the future too, so stay tuned.
