Dallas Mavericks fans have been extremely fortunate because the organization transition from an all-time great to a superstar duo without any gap.

The Dallas Mavericks have been extremely fortunate. There are franchises that search the globe and wait decades to find players like Dirk Nowitzki, Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis. Most of these hunts have led to disappointments and complete franchise overhauls.

Imagine landing your franchise cornerstone not once but twice in subsequent fashion. Welcome to the Mavericks. Let me tell you, Mavs fans have been spoiled for over two decades and haven’t even realized it.

Player movement and empowerment are at an all-time high in the NBA. The men in uniform have more control over their careers than ever before. Superstar talents decide to leave their organizations to join forces every summer. That is one thing that separated Dirk.

Dirk’s loyalty to Dallas

The Mavericks were fortunate to have a selfless superstar in Dirk Nowitzki. He only cared about one thing, winning and more importantly, doing it in Dallas.

He wasn’t interested in forming super teams or even getting the max contracts that he undoubtedly deserved. Business Insider estimates Nowitzki has given the Mavericks a hometown discount that amounts to $194 million. We can only hope that Doncic and Porzingis follow in his footsteps over the next decade-plus.

Even though the Dallas Mavericks have won only one championship since their inaugural season in 1980, that doesn’t speak for the state of the culture that resides in the American Airlines Center.
