As of now, the Dallas Mavericks still reserve a 15th roster spot on the active man roster. J.J. Barea has signed for one season, but does longtime Mavericks Devin Harris have a place as well?

The Dallas Mavericks decided to make a huge move at the trade deadline this past February by bringing in big man Kristaps Porzingis. Along with Porzingis, Trey Burke, Tim Hardaway Jr., and Courtney Lee were sent packing to Dallas in an already crowded backcourt.

Since Maverick great J.J. Barea had a horrible injury in January of 2018, Trey Burke got the opportunity to play minutes in Rick Carlisle‘s offense. Despite having some flashy moments, the Mavericks let Trey Burke walk in free agency. Trey Burke recently signed a one-year veteran minimum deal with the Philadelphia 76ers, in hopes of supporting the Sixers off the bench.

J.J. Barea will be suiting up for Dallas for possibly one last ride this fall. If all goes well, the injured achilles has reportedly been healing very quickly. ESPN journalist Tim McMahon reported that Barea wouldn’t be participating in the World Cup for his native team, Puerto Rico. This decision will only add a higher chance of safety from  injury in his 2019 season with Dallas.

Devin Harris is still out on the free-agent market without any reported meetings this summer. There will never be enough guards on Rick Carlisle’s team as he often will run two-point guard lineups. The question is if Devin Harris and Barea provide valuable playing time.
