Dallas Mavericks legend Dirk Nowitzki and rookie Luka Doncic enjoyed their pregame shooting contests, but who would win a game of one-on-one?
Dallas Mavericks icon Dirk Nowitzki has officially retired. He was the franchise player of the Mavs for two decades. Dirk was the MVP in 2007 and is sixth all-time in scoring. The legend revolutionized the game as a seven-footer that can stretch the floor and shoot 3-pointers. Mavericks fans will miss Nowitzki, but they are in good hands.
Dallas is turning the franchise over to Luka Doncic. The 20-year-old just finished his first NBA season. Luka averaged 21.2 points per game as a rookie. He is going to the Mavericks primary ball-handler and offensive initiator for the next decade-plus. Taking over the mantle from Nowitzki will be no easy task, though.
Luckily, Luka and Dirk shared the court for a season. The future first-ballot Hall of Famer imparted a plethora of lessons to the sensational rookie. Most of them took place during their pregame shooting contests. The two would battle to see who could hit more jumpers while chatting.
Those shooting competitions naturally led to speculation of which man would win a game of one-on-one. Eddie Sefko shared the following Tweet in January when Dirk was asked about the potential game versus Luka.
Dirk Nowitzki on what a one-on-one match against Luka Doncic would go like? “He’s got a lot of moves in the one-on-one games. He’s got a lot of shots in his repertoire. I’d probably go with him now. But back in the days? No chance, no chance.”

That had fans intrigued about plenty of potential one-on-one games between the two. Who wins right now? Does prime Dirk dominate rookie Doncic? And so many other potential showdowns. Here is a look at the four one-on-one games that had Dallas Mavericks fans most intrigued.
