Although the NBA season officially starts tonight, the Dallas Mavericks season still has one more day until stepping onto the AAC floor for their first game. Naturally, all eyes will immediately be turned to one man: #1 himself.

Everyone is excited for the Dallas Mavericks this year. By Dallas Mavericks, I mean, everyone is excited for one particular Dallas Maverick this year. Just the other day, I saw an ad on SnapChat that featured Dennis Smith Jr. putting down a vicious dunk against the Orlando Magic. My first thought was, I can’t remember the last time a Mavs player was featured in a national advertisement.

It really is amazing how quickly Dennis Smith Jr. has captured the eyes of the national viewers. The Mavericks are used to having a team that does not get enough respect in the national media. Dallas, which is apparently a small market team, has always had trouble getting the attention of the major sports networks in the national media.

That will no longer be the case though as the Mavs get to show off their newest weapon. With one day left, it is only fitting that we pay tribute to the newest player and the first notable Maverick to wear the #1 jersey. Let’s take a look at a few of the best highlights we have seen from the youngster from NC State up to this point.

This first one is the dunk featured in the ad mentioned earlier.

Or here are a couple big dunks in his college days.

And of course, the occasional pregame dunk.

There will be no shortage of great highlights coming from the Dallas Mavericks this year, and most of them will be featuring #1 high above the rim. This is an exciting time for Mavs fans and, although it may not translate directly to a winning season, it will give people something to watch for night in and night out.

I for one am excited to see all the highlight reel plays that DSJ will be producing this upcoming season. Starting tomorrow, the Mavericks will officially be in the Dennis Smith Jr. era and, despite the fact that this is not his team yet, the entire league will be watching and waiting for his next big highlight.

The NBA season will start tomorrow for the Dallas Mavericks, who will take on the Atlanta Hawks here in Dallas. The game is set to tip-off at 7:30 central time and the #1 player to keep an eye out for will be ready to gain some new fans for life. Let’s Go Mavs!
