Ron Baker

For those unfamiliar with Ron Baker, you may vaguely remember him from his time with the upset-happy Wichita State Shockers from 2012-2016. During his time there, Baker really helped the program become relevant, despite being a small name school.

The Shockers success was notable and impressive and Baker was a big part of that. Despite his college success, Baker was undrafted in the 2016 draft before signing with the New York Knicks in the offseason. His start with the team was slow but he finally settled in as a fairly decent player coming off the bench (and occasionally starting) for the confusing Knicks team.

The Mavericks and Ron Baker would be a good pairing because Baker brings a reasonable all around performance to the game. He is a good offensive player and works hard on defense and is still looking for his shot in the league. Baker is 24 years old so his price tag is still going to be fairly low and the only iffy thing would be his height at 6’3″ as a shooting guard.

This would not work if the Knicks decide to bring him back. Baker is not going to bring any sort of interest from any team out there so the Knicks would be able to retain him with no real hit on the salary cap. His size is also worrisome which the Mavs could easily not pursue due to already having some undersized players on the roster.
