Mavs Best Low-Risk, High-Reward Options in Free Agency

Larry Sanders
One of the most interesting players in this year’s free agency class has to be Larry Sanders. Sanders was at one time the up and coming center of the league with the Milwaukee Bucks. In the 2012-13 season, Sanders averaged 9.8 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 2.8 blocks per game.
Dallas Mavericks
Despite this great season, Sanders fell into some major personal problems over the next few years and was never able to get back to that stellar year. Before the 2015 season, Larry Sanders decided to step away from the game for a little while. He returned before the end of last season in time for 5 games with the Cavs, but was underwhelming.
The Mavs should take a look at Sanders just because we have seen what he is capable of doing. Although he has not been half the player he was since the 2012-13 season, he is still only 28 years old and has a lot of potential ball left in him. His style of play as a defensive specialist with above the rim play on offense would go well as the backup to a similar player in Nerlens Noel.
This would not work because the Mavericks may be a little concerned about his past. He is not necessarily a young player but he’s also not old yet, so Dallas may just be worried about his being away from the league for the last couple years. He still could be a decent option as a veteran minimum pickup though.
