The Dallas Mavericks are in the process of a rebuild and it is starting with a lot of youth that has been fairly unproven. What other young players could the Mavs target this summer?

People tend to forget that just to make it to the NBA, it takes a tremendous amount of skill and a tremendous amount of God-given ability. In many cases, one trumps the other and it doesn’t work very well. Meanwhile, every once and awhile, you get those players that exceed expectations because of how good they become.

These players usually tend to stay on the lower end of the market, making them both affordable and open to some monetary deals that bypass the cap limit (i.e. veteran minimum). Sometimes with cap fluctuation, a player’s value can change, but it is all dependent on the market.

One thing to remember in this situation is that Dallas is still pretty low on cap space. Unless they are able to move a big contract like Wesley Matthews or Dwight Powell without a big hit in return, the Mavs money to spend is extremely limited and may keep them out of free agency completely.

The addition of Dennis Smith Jr. has definitely affected the Mavericks summer plans, and now it is hard to tell exactly what Dallas wants to do to fill out the roster. The team has somewhere around 12 roster locks going into the offseason now, and many more players fighting for the last few places.

Adding another player off of free agency would not guarantee them a spot, but would give Dallas a chance to have some more competition for the last few spots on the bench. It may amount to nothing, but it could also pay off.

With that said, here are my low-risk, high-reward selections from free agency. Keep in mind that some of these players may have been mentioned in my previous free agency targets as well.
