High Character and Mature

Lastly, the Mavs’ point guard of the future needs to be a solid locker room presence. Dallas has shown that they value high character players who spend their free time in the gym, not at the club. Carlisle in particular doesn’t mesh well with immature players, and likely wouldn’t hesitate to bench any rookie who he thought wasn’t taking the opportunity seriously enough. Add in the numerous veterans who don’t want to tolerate an annoying or negative locker room guy, and I simply can’t see Dallas turning to anyone with any significant maturity or off-court problems.

There are many other skills and traits that Donnie Nelson and the Mavs’ staff will be looking for, but expect these four to be prominent in the next Mavericks point guard. Hopefully we can land someone who truly “fits” with the Dallas Mavericks.
