Dwight Powell

Last year, Dwight Powell made more than Noel, Curry, Barea, Harris, Mejri and more as the fourth highest paid player on the team at $8.3 million.

Powell originally came over in the Rajon Rondo trade from Boston only to sign a four-year, $37 million deal last summer. Now, after the 2016-17 season, Powell is still under contract for three more years with a player option on the last year.

The main problem, Powell doesn’t have a role on the team worthy of being the fourth highest paid player on it.

The 25-year-old appeared in 77 games for the Mavericks where he averaged just over 17 minutes a game. Even though Powell showed improvement to his outside shot at the very end of the season, Powell’s biggest knock against him is his inconsistent shooting.

Dirk Nowitzki and Nerlens Noel will be back in the front court. Then you look at Harrison Barnes, Dorian Finney-Smith, a potential first round draft pick and potentially a free agent signing; suddenly, Powell looks expendable.

Considering the roster makeup and the cap number Powell carries, I expect Dallas to shop him this offseason in hopes of unloading his contract.
