3.) I Don’t Want Dallas to…Hand Big Money to a Middle Tier Free Agent Point Guard

If Dallas can’t land a guard on draft night, then expect them to go free agent shopping over the offseason for a penitential point guard.

Stephen Curry and Chris Paul will be out of touch for Dallas. The Kyle Lowry situation is interesting, but I don’t see that happening. After Lowry, it gets interesting with a handful of veteran, middle tier point guards.

Jrue Holiday, George Hill, Jeff Teague, and Patty Mills are all next in line after the top three point guards. For the price they will demand on the open market, I don’t want Dallas to hand out any type of big money to any of those guys.

Would it be nice to watch the majority of these guys in Dallas next season? Absolutely. Would any of those guys be the best point guard Dallas has had in a few years? Probably so. But I don’t want to commit financially, a big chunk of the salary cap to one of these middle tier guys.

I would much rather go into next season with a rookie point guard, Yogi Ferrell, J.J. Barea and even Seth Curry at the point guard spot.
