Robert Covington (26)

Robert Covington is only 26 years old and that alone should peak the Mavericks interest just a little bit. He is one of the lesser known players in the league for his relatively impressive play over the past few years but that might fit Dallas just perfectly. The 76ers are so overloaded in their frontcourt that they may let him walk regardless.

This would be necessary for the Sixers to do, however, because they carry a team option on Covington for the upcoming season. At only $1.5 million, it would be very hard to see the team not keeping him onboard, but it is nice to dream nonetheless.

Dallas would love a guy like Covington. Not only has Covington’s scoring been consistently good over the last three years, he also grabs a reasonable amount of rebounds and is a great defender. Covington was 4th in the league this last season in steals, only behind Draymond Green, John Wall, and Chris Paul. He is 6’9″ and plays some small forward but he and Barnes would do well together.

Covington would love it in Dallas because it would get him out of Philly. Not only that but he would be able to play again with Nerlens Noel which would give him some familiarity and his coaching and players around him would be great to help his game out. He would get the chance to be pushed into the starting lineup and be one of the main scorers on the offense for a team looking to contend. The Sixers will probably never let him go. It’s ok to dream though.

The Dallas Mavericks have these options and many more at the power forward position. It will be fun to see if they pursue this route in the offseason or not but, regardless of what they decide, the free agent market is as good as it has ever been this summer.
