Outlook

With trades impossible to predict, here are my locks to be back on the roster for next season.

Guards– Matthews, Curry, Ferrell, Barea

Wings-Barnes, Finney-Smith, Brussino

Bigs-Nowitzki, Noel, Mejri, Powell

This totals up to 11 spots of the roster with nine more camp spots for the fall.

More from The Smoking Cuban

Harris, Hammons, Uthoff, and Liggins are all on the brink in my opinion, but could each very well be on the roster next season.

Now let’s factor in the Mavericks’ first round draft pick and at least one free agent signing on the open market. Let’s assume the draft pick is a guard and the free agent signing is a wing or front court player. This would put the depth chart looking something like this:

1- Ferrell, Draft Pick, Barea

2- Matthews, Curry

3- Barnes, Finney-Smith, Brussino

4- Nowitzki, Free Agent Signing, Powell

5- Noel, Mejri

That gives 13 locked in spots with two more full roster spots and two D-League friendly contracts to put the roster at 17. These could be filled with any of the players from last season or potential new signings.

Next: Dallas Should Bring Back Vince Carter

For the most part, the Mavericks should look similar to last year. Something that couldn’t be said about the franchise over the past multiple years.
