Dallas Mavericks: 10 Positives From the 2016-17 Season

7.) No Bad, Long-Term Contracts
The Dallas Mavericks survived the offseason and trade deadline without attaching themselves to any BAD long-term contract. This, in today’s NBA, should be viewed as a positive.
It was just last summer that Dallas made the decision not to sign Chandler Parsons to a max contract. Parsons obviously went on to sign a four-year, $94 million deal and would only average six points a game in 34 games. Now, he is among the laughing-stock of the NBA in regards to contracts.
Then you have players such as Joakim Noah, Kent Bazemore, Allen Crabbe, and Solomon Hill that are all locked into MASSIVE contracts as role players.
For Dallas, their biggest long-term contract is Harrison Barnes, but I think it is safe to say that you are happy in paying him that. Wesley Matthews has one more year before a player option. The only contract you might not be the happiest about long-term is paying Dwight Powell close to $10 million for the next couple of seasons.
Either way, Dallas isn’t attached to a Joakim Noah like contract and that is a positive.
