Overall Grade. C+. . Dallas Mavericks.

Clearly the Mavericks centers have plenty of room for improvement. The play at the 5 position has been well below the average in the league and these guys are the main reason for it. Since Dirk has taken over the middle spot, things have changed a little bit, but at 39 years old, he needs help in the middle.

If Dallas is going to make a change, it is going to have to happen in the next few days. Rick Carlisle wants to keep Nowitzki at the center position from here on out, but it doesn’t mean he can’t use some quick help though. Dallas will need a center of the future and none of the current players are that.

At a C+, the Mavs centers have their work cut out for them the rest of this season. Acy is gone, Hammons is a non-factor and Bogut’s days are limited here. Powell and Mejri will be the main contributors going forward and they both have time to figure the game out still.

The Dallas Mavericks center history continues to be subpar at its best, and it certainly doesn’t appear to be changing any time soon. Mejri, Bogut, Powell and the rest of them have done what they can, but with so few elite centers left in the NBA, Dallas needs to bite the bullet and go grab one.
