Could Dwight Powell Be Taking the Next Step?

Dwight Powell was the only non-regular starter in the starting unit as he replaced Dirk Nowitzki in the starting lineup. Not only did he play the four, but he was also the backup center behind Bogut as Salah Mejri still rehabs back from injury.

Powell naturally logged a team-high 24 minutes where he finished with 15 points on 6/8 shooting. He also went 3/5 from the free throw line and pulled down seven boards.

His athleticism was evident on both ends of the floor as the newly paid big man tries to prove he is worthy of bigger minutes this coming season. His mid-range shot seems to be improving while his low post defense is still a work in progress.

If Powell can continue to play like he did tonight, then he might be in line for heavier minutes this season.
