2.) The Young Guns Don’t Pan Out

Besides handing out the max contract to Harrison Barnes, Dallas changed up their mindset this summer in filling out the rest of the roster. Instead of filling the roster with aging veterans like Richard Jefferson and Amare Stoudemire, the Mavs went a much younger route.

First off, Dallas decided to bring back 25-year-old Dwight Powell on a new four-year deal worth around $40 million. Then they went out and signed 25-year-old Seth Curry to a two-year deal worth around $6 million. They also added 25-year-old Quincy Acy.

Combine these guys with second year forward Justin Anderson and the Mavs have some quality young guns who will have a large part in the rotation. The biggest thing this season for these guys is taking the next step in their career. In a dream scenario, one or two of these guys would have a coming out party and truly break out.

The worst case scenario would have these young guns imploding. Powell doesn’t improve on his shooting, Curry doesn’t take the next step in his career and Anderson doesn’t improve. Dallas needs their youngsters to take the next step in their careers.
