Kohl Rast: Dorian Finney-Smith

“A lot of people have become so enamored with the Jonathan Gibson show that they have overlooked the first rookie contract the Mavs handed out. Dorian Finney-Smith may not be near the level scorer that Gibson is but he brings a lot more to the game than that. I don’t mean this to take anything away from Gibson who I believe will contribute this season and in years to come, but rather to remind people what position is in the most need for the team.

Behind Harrison Barnes, the Mavericks really don’t have another proven small forward. We may go small ball often times and use Wesley Matthews there but the fact remains that Barnes needs a backup. I believe Finney-Smith will be able to find his way onto the roster and potentially in the rotation.”

Aside from the three that were chosen between the staff members, there are many others that could easily make their case for the Mavs rookie of the year this season. For this reason, it will be fun to keep up with each of the players and wait to see how they can contribute on the court both in the D-League as well as the NBA.
