Why the Dallas Mavericks Are a ‘Winner’ This Summer

5.) Andrew Bogut for Nothing
Look across the league this offseason at the free agent contracts being handed out to big men. With Timofey Mozgov and Ian Mahinmi making $16 million a year, can you imagine what Andrew Bogut would have made on the open market this offseason?
The 31-year old big man just came off a season in Golden State where he anchored the middle again for a record-setting, 73 wins. He missed just 12 games on the season and gave the Warriors a shot blocking presence that all teams had to game plan for.
To Rick Carlisle, he is one of the top defensive big men in the game and Dallas got him for nearly nothing.
Dallas traded a future second round pick for Bogut and a future second rounder as a result of Golden State needing to shed his salary to make room for Kevin Durant.
Not only did Dallas get Bogut for nearly nothing, but he comes in making just $11 million this season, and hits free agency next summer. So no long-term commitment, a cheap cap number, and a highly effective rim defender.
