Dallas Mavericks: Mavs Lose First Summer League Game in Orlando

The Dallas Mavericks Faced off against the Oklahoma City Thunder summer league squad earlier today for the NBA Summer League in Orlando.

The Dallas Mavericks summer league team lost their first game in Orlando, 86-85 to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Up next they will face the Orlando Magic, on Monday July 4, at 12 p.m. CT. The game will be aired on TXA 21 and NBA TV.

Remember that controversy that Russell Westbrook’s dancing stirred up in the playoffs? Well it was none other than Cameron Payne, Westbrook’s dance partner, that hit the game winner Saturday morning against Dallas.

Despite the loss, Mavericks prospect and former Arizona forward Brandon Ashley dominated the game, scoring 10 points and grabbing 8 rebounds in the first half. Ashley finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds, he was 5-10 from the field and 0-4 from three.

Ashley’s productivity will be something to keep an eye on this summer with the pending free agency of Dwight Powell. Ashley could potentially fill a roster slot or become a trade piece for the Mavericks.

Dallas was coached by newly hired Texas Legends head coach Bob Mackinnon. Mackinnon is an experienced D-League coach who won the championship back in 2009 with the Colorado 14ers.
