Dallas Receives: Omer Asik, Quicey Pondexter, and 6th pick

New Orleans Receives: Wesley Matthews and 46th pick

New Orleans: The Pelicans can’t continue their lack of improvement during the Anthony Davis era and picking another rookie could prolong things again. This move would allow them to bring in the prototypical 3-D shooting guard in Matthews to replace Eric Gordon.

They would also shed the contract of Omer Asik, which is on the books for four more years and over $11 million dollars a year. Pondexter is on the books for two more years and would be a salary cap filler to make the deal work.

Dallas: The Mavs would finally get a top 10 pick in the draft, the first time in over 10 years. Losing Matthews would hurt, but with the emergence of Justin Anderson and possibly a return for Raymond Felton, Dallas could fill the void.

At pick 6, Dallas could go in many different directions, possibly a long-term Dirk Nowitzki replacement in Dragan Bender or Marquese Chriss. They really could go with the best player available.

Asik would be a big contract to take on, but could step in right away at center as he is a serviceable center when healthy.
