With the Dallas Mavericks only possessing a second round pick, moving up in the draft could be a viable option.

Dallas notably traded their first round pick in the 2016 NBA Draft a couple of winter’s ago when they brought in Rajon Rondo and Dwight Powell over from Boston. Now, Dallas is armed with just a second round pick in the draft this Thursday.

Dallas could trade their pick and move out of the draft all together or they could stand pat and draft a player who could potentially make the roster. But there is also another option…moving up into the draft.

The Mavericks are in a unique situation as they are still in a win-now mentality during Dirk Nowitzki‘s last few years while still looking to get younger at the same time. Moving up in the draft could allow them to achieve both of these goals heading into the summer.

The following are three trade scenarios in which the Mavs could entertain moving up in the draft.
