The brother of Giannis”The Greek Freak” Antetokounmpo, Thanasis Antetokounmpo, is scheduled to workout for the Dallas Mavericks.

With Giannis coming into the league in the 2013 draft, the Antetokounmpo name was instantly known for the combination of freakish athleticism and measurements. A year later, Giannis found his brother Thanasis, trying to carve out a spot in the league.

On June 25th, the day before the 2014 NBA Draft, the Dallas Mavericks made a blockbuster trade with the New York Knicks that landed them Tyson Chandler and Raymond Felton. In that deal, the Mavericks included their second round pick, the 51st pick in the draft.

With that 51st pick, the New York Knicks selected Thanasis Antetokounmpo from Athens, Greece.

Thanasis played only two games in two years for the Knicks and now finds himself as a free agent looking to stick with a team. Then he was invited to Mavs mini-camp next week.

Standing at 6’7″, Thanasis has the same athleticism gene as his brother, but lacks the jump shot and knowledge of the game that Giannis possesses. After playing significant time in the D-League for the Westchester Knicks, Thanasis earned All-Defensive Second Team honors.

Now, Thanasis looks to show in mini-camps across the league that he still deserves a spot in the league.

According to EuroHoops.net, Thanasis might have a scheduling conflict with the Mavs mini-camp as the dates with the camp interfere with the Greece National Team preparing for the Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Turin.

The Dallas Mavericks will look to turn over all stones this summer as they look to put a younger roster together that can still compete in some of Dirk Nowitzki‘s last year’s.
