Dallas Mavericks: Smaller Free Agent Targets

Centers
Possibly the biggest area of need for the Mavericks and the most likely big name free agent chase will be at the center position. With Salah Mejri and JaVale McGee both still under contract, the Mavs may have good enough backups but will they get a big name to start for them or just an under the radar player?
Bismack Biyombo could eventually become an elite level center, especially on the defensive end. Despite his size, (he is only a 6’9” center), Biyombo has proven to be a force on the defensive end and a potential finisher around the rim as he matures a little bit more.
Biyombo comes at a good time because he may not be an elite level center right now which means he will not be getting elite level money. Combo that with the fact that there are numerous elite centers available this year and it is easy to see how he could be valuable to the Mavs in the long run.
Timofey Mozgov had a rough year with the Cavaliers going from a daily starter to an end of the bench seat heater, despite really no decline in production. The change of pace Tyronn Lue employed in Cleveland hung Mozgov out to dry, which could be a good thing.
Mozgov plays a lot like Pachulia in that he is a gritty player who hustles on both ends of the court. A pretty capable defender and rim protector, Mozgov has shown signs that he can be an above average offensive player as well. Could be a good last resort for Dallas if he decides to wait to sign.
Roy Hibbert should really be considered the last last resort for Dallas but may be the cheapest option available for a player that at one time was considered one of the top 3 centers in the game. Playing the worst basketball of his career, he is in need of a major change.
Dallas may not be the best fit for him as he was never a great rebounder in his career which is the Mavericks biggest need. But, his rim defense and scoring were very good in his early years in Indiana and, if they can get that back, he definitely would be a free agency steal.
(All centers mentioned above will be unrestricted free agents this offseason.)
Next: Why the Mavericks Should Not Chase Hassan Whiteside
The Dallas Mavericks have their sights set high in this free agency, looking to chase big names all over the NBA. Many of these players may be attainable for Dallas but, if we strike out, it may not be the worst thing. These smaller names may not be making headlines, but they could put a decent Mavs team back on the map.
