2.) Wesley Matthews Games Played

Wesley Matthews played in 78 games this season…something I doubt anyone outside of Matthews himself would have predicted.

After tearing his Achilles just over 7 months from the start of the season, many people predicted Matthews to start the season in street clothes as he eased back from his injury. Some national media sites predicted Matthews to return around Christmas time on a minute restriction.

Meanwhile, Matthews was adamant the whole summer and training camp about playing on opening night. After earning his “Iron Man” nickname in Portland for his hard work, Matthews was determined to play in the first game…and indeed he did.

Many people thought not only that Matthews would play on opening night, but that whenever he did start playing again that he would get scheduled days off and plenty of recovery days.

This is what makes Matthews missing only four games on the season surprising.
