Isaac Harris: No Trade at the Deadline

“I’m kind of going against our rules for this roundtable because you can’t predict an active trade deadline for a team before the season starts, but the lack of activity from the Mavs at the deadline shocked me because of where they were at as a team.

At that time, Chandler Parsons was healthy and the Mavs were finally looking to find their groove. Dallas was in a unique spot as they had a solid group of players, but not a roster that could compete in the playoffs. There was holes that needed to be filled. Now there wasn’t any trade that the Mavs could have done probably to propel them to the top, but I thought for sure they would have done something.

With Raymond Felton and Zaza Pachulia playing well above their standards on expiring deals, Dallas had veterans teams could have wanted. Then there is Dwight Powell, who Donnie Nelson said they fielded mid-first round offers for the youngsters, but they decided to hold on to him and sit him on the bench the majority of the late playoff push.

No trade at the deadline was my biggest surprise of the season.” -Harris

Now the Mavericks enter an interesting offseason looking to answer many questions surrounding their roster.
