Rumors: Amar’e Stoudemire “high” on return to Mavericks

Mar 2, 2015; Dallas, TX, USA; Dallas Mavericks center Amar

Amar’e Stoudemire is one of 10 (potentially 11) Dallas Mavericks’ free agents. According to Jared Zwerling, STAT returning to the Mavericks this offseason shouldn’t be a surprise.

Stoudemire is also open to returning to former teams: The Phoenix Suns and New York Knicks.

Stoudemire was bought out during the All-Star break by the Knicks. That’s when the Mavericks were able to sign him to fill the void left behind by Brandan Wright, who the team traded to the Boston Celtics to acquire Rajon Rondo.

In 23 games with the team, Amar’e averaged 10.8 points, 3.7 rebounds, and shot 58.1% from the floor.

Currently Dirk Nowitzki and Dwight Powell are the only big men on the roster

The team will focus on either retaining Tyson Chandler or possibly signing DeAndre Jordan at center.

While he no longer is the explosive twenty-plus point scorer he once was, and his defense and rebounding are nothing to brag about, Amar’e, as a fourth big man off the bench and at the minimum, would be a great value for this Mavs squad. Assuming they retain Chandler and find a viable backup option.
