Villanueva, 30, stands at 6’11” and is a career 34.3% 3-pt shooter. Coach Rick Carlisle prefers to have shooting at the power forward spot, which could work in Villanueva’s favor to making the team.
Villanueva joins Ivan Johnson and Eric Griffin as non-guaranteed contracts on the Mavs roster. Reports have also mentioned that the team has also agreed to a non-gauranteed deal with guard Doron Lamb, but nothing has been made official to this point.
Villanueva holds career averages of 11.5 points and 5.1 rebounds. He enjoyed his best season with the Milwaukee Bucks during the 2008-09 season; he averaged 16.2 points, 6.7 rebounds, and shot 34.5% from deep.
After his career season, he would sign a 5-year, $38 million deal with the Detroit Pistons. His scoring would decrease during each season with the team.
He averaged just 4.6 points, 1.7 rebounds, and shot a career-low 25% from three in 20 games.
