The Dallas Mavericks blew a big 25 point second quarter lead to lose to the Memphis Grizzlies. They only scored 5 points in the third quarter in fact, after posting 38 points in the first quarter alone.
“It’s just one of those nights,” Nowitzki said, via ESPN Dallas. “If you don’t have a rhythm, you can have an ugly game. And they did a good job taking us out of our game. Everything was contested the second half. It was nothing easy.”
It seems like the Mavs had rhythm and lost it, or were taken out of it. But their struggles weren’t on the defensive side of things for a change, it all lies with the offense going cold. The Mavs held the Grizzlies to 90 points but only managed to get 84 points. That 5 point 3rd quarter was clearly the nail in the coffin.
In the 3rd quarter they weren’t able to create the opportunities they found in the 1st half.
“The shots that he did get weren’t high-quality shots,” coach Rick Carlisle said. “And there were one or two where I thought he could have gotten the whistle.”
OJ Mayo certainly hoped his return to Memphis would have gone better.
“That’s the way it goes, man,” said Mayo. “You want to play good. You want to play ‘em all good. You play bad, you’ve got to take a quick look at it and move on to the next game.”
