At the age of 40, Jason Kidd as decided to end his hall-of-fame career today. He cuts his current three year deal with the New York Knicks short, but his accomplishments in his career speak volumes.

From being co-rookie of the year in 1994 with Grant Hill, who retired the day before, to winning a NBA championship with the Dallas Mavericks in 2011. Kidd leaves the game a 10-time NBA All-Star and second in history for total assists and steals behind John Stockton.

“When you think about 19 years, it has been a heckuva ride. Physically, I want to be able to participate in activities with my kids so it has taken a toll. It is time to move…”, said Kidd during an interview with ESPNNewYork.com

For a Mavericks fan like myself, the best memories of Jason will be the championship run of 2011. Second would be the Mavericks marketing campaign of the “Three Js” with Jamal Mashburn and Jim Jackson.

When asked what he would do now with his free time he hinted towards broadcasting and surprisingly coaching. Then again, he is the ultimate floor general.

Thanks for the memories…

The Dallas Mavericks stayed close to the undefeated New York Knicks beyond halftime but eventually turned cold and by the end of the game had given the Knicks their fourth straight victory, 104-94. The Knicks are not only undefeated but they have won all 4 games by 10 points or more and all against over .500 teams.

After shooting reasonably well in the first half and leading by two at the break, the Mavericks lost their shot midway through the third quarter while New York continued to find the range. In addition, the Mavs returned to the worst habit of the preseason, turning the ball over 20 times. Combine that with a subpar shooting night and there was no way the Mavs could keep up. The loss snapped a 3-game winning streak.

Carmelo Anthony continued to be Superman East as he put up 31 points, 7 rebounds and 2 blocks while Josh Smith added 22 points. Former Mavs Tyson Chandler put in 11 points and 9 rebounds while Jason Kidd had 6 points and 3 assists in just over 15 minutes on the floor.

Dallas was led by O. J. Mayo with 22 points, Vince Carter with 15 and Chris Kaman, who had another nearly-perfect night with 14 points on 6-of-7 shooting.

Full report coming up on The Smoking Cuban.
