Pass the microphone please….to Dirk
Love me some Dirk. I really love me some Dirk. Nowitzki. Hearing his commentary of Jason Terry’s alley-oop to Brandon Wright in the second quarter of Wednesday’s game against Minnesota only cranked it up a notch or three. It was radio gold I tell you. I kid you not. If you didn’t hear it, well I question your Mav loyalty and love, but encourage you to put it on your list of things to Google. That is exactly what a spectator needs and what fans want to hear. The commentator into the game and so excited he is ready to [...]
Sore Knee Sits Dirk Nowitzki Out Four Games
Saturday night was the first of four games the Dallas Mavericks will being playing without starting forward Dirk Nowitzki. So far, so good. The Mavs left New Orleans with an 83-81 lead with Dirk on the sideline in his Sunday best. Rick Carlisle spoke briefly post game regarding the why Dirk will be sitting out the next four games, including tonights match against the Hornet, while working out his sore right knee. “This is not a rest situation. Quite the opposite,” Carlisle said. “He’ll go through harder workouts this week than he would if we were having practice days and [...]
A New Beginning
The Dallas Mavericks began their new season with an exhibition against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Although the Mavs ended up on the losing end, this was not a game about wins and loses. The absence of both Dirk Nowitzki and Jason Kidd sent that message loud and clear. This game was not even about working in the new team members with the returning players. This game, apparently, was about conditioning and getting the younger players some quality minutes.

The 2011 NBA Draft and the Lockout Loom
The NBA 2011 draft is just two days away. While the NBA draft does not have the coverage or excitment of their NFL counterparts, it is the last bit of NBA action we will have for some time. The NBA has already cancelled the summer league, a sign that the impending lockout will become a reality. Great. Another sport locked in a greedy grab for millions between millionaires and billionaires. The result will almost assuredly be higher prices for the average joe hoping to watch some sports while trying to relax from a hard day’s work. But I digress. There is basketball to discuss!
Mavs Have Many Decisions Awaiting
The off-season is here. The NBA draft is coming up but this is not what most people are talking about. The collective bargaining agreement is set to expire at the end of June. Many teams are reportedly losing millions of dollars. We are being told that the owners are prepared to take a hard stand, needing to do so in order to keep the league going. Speculation is that much of the season could be lost with both sides refusing to budge. Lets hope that is not going to happen.
Thoughts on the reaction to the Finals
It is hard to believe but it has only been two days since the Mavs won the 2011 championship. The victory parade will take place in Dallas on Thursday. Dirk Nowitzki won the MVP in convincing fashion, demonstrating what Mavericks have known for years, #41 is a beast! The Mavs won the title with grit, superior passing, key strategic adjustments, outstanding teamwork, and clutch play. And yet, as I watched Sportscenter and listened to talk radio (I do not live in Texas), all I heard about was LeBron James and the Miami Heat.
The Dallas Mavericks, Your 2011 NBA Champions!
That’s right! Last night the Dallas Mavericks took Game 6 to close out the series by defeating the Miami Heat 105-95. The Mavericks finally were able to avenge their 2006 defeat to Miami and brought home their first championship. Dirk Nowitzki scored 10 of his 21 points to help seal the deal. Nowitzki was named MVP for his clutch performance throughout the series.
At the half, the Mavs lead 53-51
The Dallas Mavericks continued their hot shooting in the second quarter. DeShawn Stevenson hit his first three shots from downtown and the Mavs opened up a 12 point lead. After a timeout, the Heat came alive, going on a 14-0 run to take the lead. This quarter, and the first half, was all about both teams going streaking. After the Heat took the lead, a timeout was called. As both teams were leaving the court, a skirmish broke out as Haslem and Stevenson began to push each other. Mario Chalmers came charging into the fray, escalating the situation. All three [...]
Mavs lead by 5 after one quarter
LeBron James came out like a man possessed. He hit his first 4 shots, tallying 9 points, leading the Heat to a lead. Then Dirk Nowitzki picked up two fouls and went to the bench. Then Jason Terry came in and went off! The Mavs went on a 21-7 run to close the quarter to take a 32-27 lead. The Mavs seem to have this game under control. It feels like Rocky IV. They took a beating early, but just kept coming. They have a championship look and it feels like they will simply refuse to lose this game. We [...]
