Former Dallas Mavericks point guard, Deron Williams will be a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers. As no surprise to the NBA, D-Will is planning to sign with the Cavs shortly after clearing waivers.

As to be expected, the Cleveland Cavaliers and Deron Williams have reportedly struck a deal the moment D-Will cleared waivers. LeBron James and others have all been in favor of this move, so much so that rumors of a Mavs-Cavs trade picked up a lot of steam right before the trade deadline.

Rumors of an Iman Shumpert, Deron Williams swap were there, but reports said that the Mavs were not satisfied with any of the offers they received from Cleveland. Other trade attempts were made, but none suited every party involved.

Now, according to Marc Stein of ESPN, D-Will is ready to join his new team any time. Williams was averaging around 13 points per game for the Mavericks this season and will be a key piece off the bench for the defending champion Cleveland Cavaliers.

Deron clearly wanted to join up with a contender this season if he couldn’t stay with Dallas. Reported interest in D-Will from his former team, the Utah Jazz, seemed like a good possibility for a deal to be struck, but something fell through.

Williams has a home and made Dallas his home while here, expecting to be here for the long haul. The Mavs lack of success this season has been clear and valuable pieces like Williams and Bogut looked like great trade bait. It was a bit of a shock when the Mavs chose to just waive him instead, but clearly they took into account what Williams wanted.

Expect to see Deron make a solid difference for the Cleveland Cavaliers where Mavs fans wish him the best of luck. No matter what our feelings are towards Williams, he was a Maverick and that deserves respect from our fans. Thanks for the memories D-Will.
