The Dallas Mavericks came in with an upset in mind but eventually fell in a tough game against the Golden State Warriors, 130-112.

The Dallas Mavericks faced off against the Golden State Warriors tonight in an absolute shootout. Golden State (62-6) eventually fended off the upset-minded Mavericks 130-112. This loss drops the Mavericks under .500 with only 13 games remaining in the regular season.

Dallas (34-35) really could have used this big win both in the standings and as a boost to morale as we have fallen victim to a rough patch over the last few weeks. With Portland (36-34) and Houston (35-34) staying out ahead and Utah (33-35) drawing closer, Dallas is going to need some serious work to stay afloat in the playoff race.

The game earlier tonight, however, stayed much closer than the final score truly shows. The first half showed the amount of firepower both these teams are capable of with the score at the break 73-67 in favor of the Warriors.

The 3rd quarter slowed each team down with the Warriors outscoring the Mavs 21-18 and taking a 9-point lead into the 4th. Things looked okay for the Mavs for a little while even narrowing the lead to just a few points late in the 3rd and 4th each.

The 4th quarter proved to be a 3-point barrage unfortunately as the Mavs clawed their way back into a 5-point game with just over 3 minutes left. 40 seconds later it was an 11-point game. The Warriors spent the final 3+ minutes going from 113 to 128 like this: Klay Thompson 3-pointer, Harrison Barnes 3-point play, Stephen Curry 3-pointer, Klay Thompson 3-pointer, and Harrison Barnes 3-pointer.

The Mavericks had no chance at this point. Golden State dropped 22 long balls, 10 of which came from the hands of Thompson who ended the game with 39. Dirk Nowitzki led the way for the Mavericks with 24 and David Lee continued to show his value to this team with 16 and 16 for another double-double.

HIGHLIGHT: Dallas truthfully shot and rebounded the ball well tonight with a 44% outing from the field and a +4 edge on the glass, despite only 3 minutes from Zaza Pachulia. Lee continues to eat into the minutes from Zaza, showing the versatility and similarity that each players bring to the game, with a noticeable offensive edge in favor of David Lee.

LOWLIGHT: Chandler Parsons went down in the 3rd quarter with a hamstring injury and did not return. No official report has come out yet, but Coach Carlisle does not believe it to be serious. Also, the Mavs allowed Golden State to shoot 58% from beyond-the-arc. That can’t happen.
