It was as close to a must-win as it gets in early February, but the Dallas Mavericks emerged victorious over the Memphis Grizzlies.

The Dallas Mavericks came into the Memphis Grizzlies home to hand them their 21st loss of the season in an overtime thriller, with a final score of 114-110. Chandler Parsons led the Mavs with 26 points on an excellent shooting night of 10/15 from the floor, including 5/8 from deep. Deron Williams, Dirk Nowitzki, and Raymond Felton also poured in 22, 18, and 16 accordingly.

Coming off of an embarrassing loss to the Spurs last night, Dallas bounced back playing a very tough game against a very tough team. After playing it close all game the Mavs got it done in overtime, giving them a 6-1 record in overtime. It was a much needed win, as it ended Dallas’ three game losing streak.

After a relatively slow start, the Mavericks got better and better as the game went on. Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol carried the Grizzlies scoring 44 points and 20 boards combined. Mike Conley had a decent performance as well including a late game three to stave off the loss a little longer, tying the game in the fourth quarter.

Another notable statistic is that Raymond Felton played 32 minutes tonight, with Wesley Matthews only playing 30. Felton played nearly every clutch minute of the game, and took advantage of the opportunity  with some late points and grabbing some tough rebounds in overtime.

In what has been a disappointing season thus far for Matthews, he had another dud, providing only 8 points and 2 assists. This level of performance, or lack thereof, is not acceptable for a player of such high caliber.

The all star break is coming soon, and that is great news for the Dallas Mavericks, as they have had one of the toughest schedules over this January. Now, after back to back games, they get a two day rest before they carry this momentum to play against the Utah Jazz.
