The Dallas Mavericks collected their 16th win of the season with an overtime victory over the Brooklyn Nets. Here are three things to know about the game.

The Dallas Mavericks were able to hold on for a 119-118 overtime victory against the Brooklyn Nets despite being without starting point guard Deron Williams, who would have been making his return to Barclays for the first time as an opponent.

Here are three things to know about the game.

Dirk moves into sixth place on all-time scoring list

After scoring 20 points against the Toronto Raptors on Monday, Dirk Nowitzki figured to move past Shaquille O’Neal into sixth-place on the NBA’s all-time scoring list the next time he suited up. He would do just that against the Brooklyn Nets, hitting a jumper over Andrea Barngani early in the second quarter to put O’Neal in the rear view mirror.

By now everything that could be said about the all-time great has been exhausted. Enjoy the greatness while you can.

Career night for Barea

It doesn’t quite compare to Dirk’s historic accomplishment from this one, but J.J. Barea‘s career-high scoring night is certainly worthy of note. He started the game 8-8 from the field as Dallas jumped out to an early advantage, and finished the first half with 20 points and 5 assists.

He added eight points and three assists in the fourth quarter and overtime to help the Mavericks avoid completely collapsing and giving Brooklyn the game.

Barea finished with 32 points and a season-high 11 assists.

Balanced effort from Chandler Parsons

The biggest takeaway from Chandler Parsons’ night was probably his season-high 34 minutes of action. But he also produced another balanced effort, echoing his 16-point, six-rebound, six-assist game against the Memphis Grizzlies last Friday.

The game in between, a loss in Toronto was a forgettable one for Parsons, but against Brooklyn, Parsons put up 11 points on 5-7 shooting, seven rebounds, and 8 assists. There will probably be more up-and-down play from Parsons as the season continues, but it’s encouraging to see him round into form a little bit as we get closer to the new year. After all, Parsons has gone on record saying his season really begins in January.

Keep an eye on him, the best has probably yet to come for him this season.
