Last week, Sports Illustrated released their top 12 candidates for the prestigious sportsman of the year award. Among them was Dallas-native and golfing sensation, Jordan Spieth.

Spieth put the golfing world on notice with his more than impressive 2015 run where he became the second youngest person ever to win the Masters and the youngest ever to win the U.S. Open. Not only is Spieth and his team happy for his success, but the whole city of Dallas has been vocal about supporting the local star.

Last year, Spieth returned the favor by making his presence known in Dallas for the Dallas Mavericks playoff series against the Houston Rockets. Spieth was honored at mid-court with his own personalized jersey and helped get the crowd pumped for the game.

Joining Spieth in the nominations, was athletes such as Lionel Messi, Stephen Curry, and Usain Bolt. There was also a pair of well deserving women in Serena Williams and Rhonda Rousey that were also nominated for the award. Unconventional nominations such as Kentucky Derby winner American Pharaoh and the whole Kansas City Royals team came as as nominations also.

Spieth is the number one ranked golfer in the world with two majors under his belt in 2015…and he’s 22 years old. Dallas biased aside, I would say that he is one of the front runners for the award.

Even though the winner of the award will ultimately be determined by the editors at Sports Illustrated, SI is wanting fan votes to help them out in the process. So make sure to click on the link below to go vote for the Dallas native and Dallas Mavericks fan in Jordan Spieth.
