By the Numbers: Mavericks Get Season Sweep of Lakers

The Dallas Mavericks downed the Los Angeles Lakers, 120-106, Sunday evening to collect their 49th win of the season. Dallas has two games left to register another 50-win campaign, but more importantly they have won three in a row and are able to get some rest for some of their rotation guys with the 7th-seed locked up.

Amar’e Stoudemire and Devin Harris were out against the Lakers, and Dirk Nowitzki, Tyson Chandler, and Monta Ellis will get the night off against Utah.

Let’s look at some standout numbers from Sunday’s win.

0: The win gave the Mavericks a 4-0 sweep of their season series against the Lakers. How many times have they done that before? 0. This is more an indictment of the Lakers’ season and where they are as a franchise than anything else but it still feels good to dominate such a storied, and hated, franchise.

11: Rajon Rondo recorded 11 assists against the Lakers while committing only three turnovers. He’s been finding a bit of a rhythm lately, picking his spots offensively and shooting well from the field, finding teammates in good positions, and taking care of the ball.

17Richard Jefferson had another strong outing while filling in for the injured Chandler Parsons in the starting lineup. He had 17 points on 4-7 shooting, hitting two three-pointers and getting to the line where he shot 7-9. It’s a great sign for Dallas, and they’ll need him to continue that type of play in the postseason. In his four games with Parsons sidelined Jefferson has averaged 15 points on over 47% shooting.

90%: Tyson Chandler played just 27 minutes against the Lakers but it was plenty of time to get himself 20 points and 9 rebounds on 90% shooting (9-10). The Mavericks will lean heavily on guys like Dirk Nowitzki in postseason play but Chandler is as important as anyone on the roster to Dallas’ success.

Good thing, like Nowitzki, he’s stepped up his play as of late. In his last five games Chandler is averaging 11.2 points and 12.8 rebounds on 71% shooting from the field. And if teammate’s keep finding him like Monta did below that field goal percentage will only climb.
