After agreeing to a deal with the Dallas Mavericks, it was revealed that Rashard Lewis will require knee surgery during the team’s physical.

The team has elected to void the one-year deal with the 34-year old power forward. The severity of the injury and length of recover have yet to be known.

This is the second straight summer that the team’s physical has found an injury and nullified a deal, Devin Harris was the case last season.

With Lewis out of the mix, the Mavericks now have two roster spots open. The team is expected to meet with Jameer Nelson Thursday about possibly taking one of the remaining spots.

The team will most likely look to find another forward to back-up Dirk Nowitzki with one of the final roster spots.

Lewis averaged 4.5 points, 1.8 rebounds, and shot 34.3% from three last season with the Miami Heat.
