Donnie Nelson calls signing Shawn Marion a 'long shot'

The Dallas Mavericks have had a pretty successful summer and offseason, not their ideal results but a solid haul of free agents nonetheless. The Mavericks’ big signing was Houston Rockets restricted free agent Chandler Parsons to a three-year deal worth $46 million, one that required franchise player Dirk Nowitzki to take even less of a paycut than originally anticipated.

The Mavericks signings have taken up their cap space and that well is running dry. The Mavericks couldn’t re-sign Vince Carter, who signed with the Memphis Grizzlies, and it looks like Shawn Marion will be headed out of town as well according to Mavs general manager and president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson.

It is also preventing them from being aggressive in regards to other free agents outside of Mavericks fans’ favorites.
