DeJuan Blair to the Washington Wizads

After using all their cap room on Chandler Parsons and trading for big man Greg Smith, DeJuan Blair‘s future in Dallas was in doubt.

According to reports, the undersized bruiser can be heading to the Washington Wizards.

Blair played on a minimum one year deal with the Mavs this season after spending the previous four with the San Antonio Spurs. He easily outplayed his minimum deal; he averaged 6.4 points and 4.7 rebounds in 78 games for the Mavericks.

When the postseason came rolling, the 6’7″, 270 pound stepped up his play against his former team. He would average 6.7 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 2 steals in the six games he played during the Mavs seven game first round series. He would miss game five due to a suspension for kicking Spurs’ center Tiago Splitter late into the fourth quarter of game four.

The five-year veteran holds career averages of 7.5 points, 5.6 rebounds, and .8 steals.

While the Wizards will be gaining a physical and active big body to play behind Nene and Marcin Gortat, the Mavs may be acquiring a trade exception. With the Mavs at the cap-limit, the trade exception could allow them to bring in another piece via a trade.

Now with the likely departure of Blair, the Mavs big bodies currently c consist of Dirk Nowitzki, Tyson Chandler, Greg Smith, and Brandan Wright

Blair will also be joining Vince Carter (Grizzlies), Jose Calderon, Samuel Dalembert, Wayne Ellington, and Shane Larkin (Knicks) as non-returning Mavs.

The last two remaining Mavs free agents are Bernard James, whom is expected to re-sign and Shawn Marion, who’s not expected back in Dallas.
