Coming off a loss against the Knicks, the Mavs were looking to bring their summer league record to 1-1. They did just that, defeating the Minnesota Timberwolves 93-85.
The Mavs were led by Bernard James and Ricky Ledo, who each scored 21 points a piece. Second year UCLA standout, Shabazz Muhammed, led all scorers with 27 points.
Bernard James has been the most impressive Mavs thus far in summer league. James has shown a deft touch around the rim and has even shown off an improved mid-range jumper. The Gal Mekel and Bernard James pick and roll was the most consistent source of offense for this game.
Ricky Ledo had a better showing in this game after struggling from the field against the Knicks. Ledo lit it up from behind the arc, hitting five 3-pointers. Consistently hitting from deep could find Ledo some minutes this year with the lack of depth at the wing position.
The most surprising Maverick had to be Eric Griffin. The Cox Pavilion was nearly left in shambles due to Griffins three thunderous dunks. Griffin even showed off some of his range, hitting a buzzer-beating three at the end of the half.
The Mavs play next on Monday at 5pm CST against the Toronto Raptors.
