Daryl Morey must be cursing Mark Cuban’s name today.
The hot news of the day is Chandler Parsons and the Dallas Mavericks agreeing to a three-year offer sheet worth $46 million. This now forces the Rockets into an agonizing 72-hour period of hoping and praying for a decision from Chris Bosh.
If Bosh takes too long to decide or he chooses to go elsewhere, the Rockets will be forced to either overpay Parsons or let him join the Mavericks. And even if Bosh decides to sign with them within the next 72 hours, and they decide to keep Parsons, they would be committing a lot of money to just four players in Parsons, Bosh, Dwight Howard and James Harden, severely restricting their team-building capabilities, while also having to give up cheap and useful talents – Patrick Beverley and Terrence Jones.
No matter which of the above scenarios actually unfolds, this offer sheet has effectively thrown a monkey wrench into the Rockets’ plans. For sure, Parsons is a very good player and fills a big need in the Mavericks roster, but it’s got to be a happy coincidence for Mark Cuban to put one over Daryl Morey after these shenanigans last season:
After Dwight Howard signed w/ Houston, Rockets GM Daryl Morey sent Mark Cuban text asking about dealing for Dirk. Cuban took it as a taunt.

Was it a taunt? Was it just a joke? Whatever it was, I bet Morey isn’t laughing now.
